Celtic have turned their sights to Egypt as they try to find the attacking midfielder who will bring the SPL title back to Parkhead.
Mohammed ‘Gedo’ Nagy is the 26-year-old frontman new boss Neil Lennon reckons can give his side a cutting edge.
The 26-year-old’s club, Ittihad, are reported to have received an offer of £600,000 to allow the Egyptian international to move to Celtic on loan with a view to permanent transfer if he settles well.
But the Hoops face competition from Egyptian champions Al-Ahlihy who they met in the Wembley Cup last summer.
The Parkhead club hope to land Gedo before Al-Alihy or any other club can make their move. And they are boosted by the news that Geddo does not want to play for any other Egyptian club.
Ittihad board member Sherif Al-Helw revealed: “Celtic offered £600,000 to loan Gedo for next season, and we are considering it.
“Ahli have also shown interest recently. In addition to that, Gouna also want him.
“It will be very difficult to keep Gedo next season because the offers he has match his ambitions and are too good to turn down.”
Charlie Mulgrew is another man on Celtic’s radar.
But with offers to return south on the table, the man who is about to come out of contract at Aberdeen wants his future decided by the end of this week.
Lennon will have his spending power seriously increased if Aiden McGeady is sold in this window.
The 24 year-old midfielder is prepared to move on from the club he joined as a schoolboy, and Spartak Moscow are set to come back in with a firm offer of more than £8million.
However, Celtic would want any fee up front, while the Russians, despite their wealth, would prefer to pay in instalments.
One player who already appears to be on his way from Parkhead is Koki Mizuno.
Kashiwa are ready to take the midfielder back to Japan on loan.
Mizuno struggled to break into Lennon’s plans after recovering from injury last season and a fresh start would suit both parties.
